0512-077

18th century
Height: 4 3/4 in, 12.1 cm

Of rectangular section with slightly convex sides, the ovoid body is supported on a spreading foot and rises to a waisted neck and an upright rim; two handles in the form of large peonies on short, leafy stems are worked in high relief to the neck. The body is worked in low relief with a narrow frieze of four archaistic monster masks, and with lotus-lappet bands around the shoulder and above the foot. The semi-translucent stone is a pale celadon-green tone with slight russet inclusions, and bears a fine polish.

Formerly in a European private collection.
