A brown-glazed stoneware bottle
Late Tang to Song or Jin dynasty
Height: 12 in, 30.5 cm
Supported on a solid conical foot, the sides flare steeply, curve inwards to a collar around the base of the neck, and evert widely to a dish-shaped mouth. A dark brown glaze covers the vessel, stopping short of the foot where the buff stoneware is revealed.
A late Tang jar, in the collection of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, with a similar glaze and stoneware body is illustrated in Wood, Chinese Glazes, p. 136.
